About
Welcome to Walking Lightly Ranch
Three generations of family tradition -
connecting with ourselves, our community, and our natural environment.
Our Story
Sometimes you get curious about what’s at the end of the road, one thing leads to another and your life changes.
That's exactly what happened on a cross country road trip in 1989, when Dick “Grampy” Bevill set out from Tennessee to Washington to meet his first grandson, Max. As he passed through the Flathead Valley, he was awed by the natural beauty. When he landed in Whitefish and found out what was at the end of the road - it was love. He returned to Tennessee, packed his bags and was living in the Flathead before the
year was out.
Like the farm boy he was, Grampy found a patch of dirt and got to work. The lakes and ridges, forests and miles of trails that are Walking Lightly Ranch became his home and roots
began to grow.
Over the last three decades, Walking Lightly Ranch has been the home to a top-notch Tennessee Walking horse breeding and training facility, and played host to all manner of authentic, meaningful gatherings, from yoga and creative writing retreats, to weddings, family reunions, and
celebrations of life.
Years later the dedication to stewardship of the land and animals, the dreams of a beautiful place, of building community and nurturing families lives on. What began as a labor of love and spiritual pilgrimage for one man has evolved into a
family legacy.
Today Walking Lightly is part family home, part horse ranch, part rustic retreat, and all beautiful Rocky Mountain countryside. Grampy's daughter Amanda and his grandsons still live and work on the ranch, carrying his values of stewardship and community forward into a new era.
From our family to yours, welcome to Walking Lightly Ranch!
Join the herd
Generations of Tennessee Walking horses were born and raised on this land and, although the breeding program is no more, our herd continues to grow.
In addition to our small herd of Walking Lightly horses living their best life, our incredible equine partner Aimee Ryder of Pure Horse has brought her own horses, along with a rotating cast of endlessly loveable training horses.
When you visit the ranch you'll catch glimpse of our four-legged companions in corrals and turnouts around the property.
